Introducing the Dr. Peter Chen Court Case Column
In the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) building of the University of Michigan, there was one person whose protective, calming, and logical presence could be felt. Someone who each of us seemed to look up to, Dr. Peter Chen, was my academic advisor while I was studying computer science at the university.
The University of Michigan regularly outranks all Ivy League universities, Stanford, CalTech and MIT in Computer Science and Computer Engineering across the most prestigious rankings [1][2][3]. The only university that it has not outranked in recent years is Carnegie Mellon and in the entire CSE department, Dr. Peter Chen is the only Hall of Fame inductee and fellow of ACM — the organization that gives out the Turing Award. The Turing Award is known as the Nobel Prize for computer science.
Though he and I have very different views on the broader world, him a God-fearing Christian, and I an agnostic, interacting with the man showed me the sincerity in his disposition.
This column aims to cover all aspects of Dr. Peter Chen’s court case.
While we are in the midst of MeToo and are far away from sexual equality, it would be a tragedy if a brilliant mind such as Professor Chen’s were wrongfully convicted, robbing us of his ingenuity, spark, and love of life. This newsletter is to make sure that things that should be discussed are discussed, the charges being as severe as they are, and his work so important.
So if you want to keep up with all aspects of Dr. Peter Chen’s court case, subscribe. There is much information I have yet to organize that will be published in the coming days that relates to Dr. Peter Chen’s work, financial interests that may be impacted by it, analysis of the court proceedings (not legal advice), and shoe-leather reporting.
All proceeds minus reporting expenses will go to this charity, Dream Catchers for Abused Children, unless a better recommendation comes about. Detailed expenses will be published in their own newsletter.
This newsletter will be free to subscribe for a limited time.
